Book Services

We offer a full range of services to help you create the most professional-looking book possible. From consulting to print brokering, from developmental editing to cover design, we can help make your project the best it can be!

Consulting

Many publishers prefer to do things themselves, but like a little help as they go. We offer consulting on all aspects of the book publication process. In addition to standard hourly billing, we offer a variety of consulting packages tailored to your needs and budget.

Editing

We offer three levels of editing services:

  • Developmental (sometimes called “Content”): This is most helpful for first-time authors. Helps clear up “voice,” characterization, event order, etc.
  • Mechanical (sometimes called “Line”): Scouring the book for typos, grammar errors and mistakes in logic.
  • Proofing: Post typesetting review of the work for errata.

Book Design and Typesetting

The art of book design is in the aesthetic choices made to balance typeface, color and form. The science of book design is in the recognition that for words to communicate effectively, they must be easily readable to the average eye. Award winning books are designed with both art and science in mind.

Our design portfolio includes: novels, illustrated children's fiction, non-fiction, business and art photography. Whether your book is all text, all photography, or some combination of text, illustrations and photography, we can create a design that showcases your content. We do 1-color to full-color designs, including hybrid color schemes such as duotone.

Our design process includes:

  • development of an overall style for the book including layout, font selection, colors and any special graphic elements;
  • digital conversion of photographs and illustrations; color correction and touchup as needed;
  • development of graphs and charts;
  • creation of tables, indices and other supporting elements.

Cover Design

Please look at our book cover samples to see the range of designs we've done. Our designs are attractive and appropriate to the content and genre of the book.

Custom photography and illustration are available.

As part of the cover design process, we can help you create effective backmatter: descriptions, blurbs, etc.

Printing

We work with printers around the world to produce high quality books in any quantity. When we handle your printing, you'll know that your job is in the hands of experienced professionals who will mind all the details of getting the product delivered on time and on budget. We can help you with both your galley/ARC and main print runs.

We work with you to analyze your market and decide if a short digital print run (POD) or traditional/offset printing is the most effective route for your book. We advise you on whether to use paperback, hardback or another binding method.

All jobs are spec’ed to be packed in boxes of about 25 lbs. (we hate lifting heavy boxes) and shrink-wrapped in 4's or 6's. All jobs include 10% cover overruns (very useful for promotion).

We can fill out and file the forms you need:

  • ISBN prefix and log (10 number minimum). Includes Bowker fee
  • Books-in-Print
  • BISAC codes
  • LCCN (Library of Congress Control Number)
  • EAN/Booklan bar code
  • Copyright registration
